Seller Description:
Up for sale here is my Lancia Delta HF Turbo i.e (Martini edition).
I have decided to sell this car as on reflection it’s another of my cars that going forward I cannot see me using that much as I now have 6 cars.
This car has been more than just a project, but an object of obsession.
This car should need no introduction, most of you reading this know what you are looking at, but for those of you who don't, this car is an automotive icon, a platform upon which well known rally cars were based. The car in question, the Lancia Delta Integrale won several successive rally car championships, the longest run for any particular manufacturer to date! Not only this, but stylistically this car is unparalleled within its genus, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who designed the VW Golf mk 1 and many iconic sports cars, he was voted the greatest car designer of last century. The uninterrupted lines of this car set it apart from the Integrale.
The car was bought in the summer of 2007 and during the last 4 years of ownership has covered nigh on 11000 miles, a modest number, but enough to indicate that the car is fully functional as everyday transport. To begin with the car encountered a few teething troubles, for example a cold start issue, slightly loose gearbox mounts and suspension mounts and a hole in the exhaust. All of these problems were ironed out promptly at a cost of £381 and a new cam-belt was added for good measure at £113. From that point onwards the car has had replaced all the working parts which were considered could have degraded with time, affecting the overall performance of the car, these include:
Avanti Sports suspension (all round) £325
Black Diamond brake discs £200
Black Diamond brake pads £73
Black diamond braided brake line kit (throughout) £120
Goodridge Stainless steel Brake lines £180
Samco Silicone Hose Kit £59
K&N air filter £75
Custom made heat shield (ensures that the air filter draws in cooler air, which improves performance and prolongs the life of the engine) £80
Bailey recirculation valve (not an exhibitionists dump valve) & Fitting Kit £99
OMP strut braces (improving rigidity of the shell of the car) £103
Long life stainless steel exhaust pipe -from the down-pipe to tail (lifetime guarantee) £425
Helix Autosport performance road clutch £306
NGK performance spark plugs £36
As well as the cam-belt, the following have been replaced as and when required:
Column switches £56
Tyres £360
Battery (very recently) £60
Toad car alarm and immobiliser Full Thatcham Category one with Certificate £375.
This covers most of the functional parts have been replaced. After having managed to get the car (in many respects) to a standard which could be considered to be better than the factory made original, due to better brakes and a more rigid structure and premium quality replacement parts, focus was switched to the cosmetic side of things, the interior and exterior of the car. Which included:
Replacement door handles (which are very difficult to get hold of)
Custom made reproduction badges all round (the original ones degrade with age)
Full body respray (3 years ago) £2356
Momo car mats (in black)
Recaro leather seats and matching rear seat (rare as hens teeth, specifically designed for the HF Turbo)
Evo Style rear roof Spoiler £305
The Martini Livery was removed from the exterior prior to its full respray and was not replaced as quite frankly the car looks better without it, but they could be easily replaced by the new owner if required .Another plus point to add is that this car has the original wheels, which look better than aftermarket wheels and they are designed for this car, she would not handle any better with aftermarket wheels. There is an aftermarket stereo and CD player/ radio fitted £200 which is more than adequate and an improvement against the stock original.
All of the aforementioned modifications were done tastefully and in-keeping with the intended performance level and refined looks of the car, as they were originally conceived on the drawing board. The cost of the parts alone, excluding labour, came to around £4500.
There are no desperate modifications which would squeeze a few added horse power out of the car at the expense of the life-span of the car. The car is plenty fast enough as it is, at 140 BHP, the car weighs in at a mere metric tonne, which gives this car an astounding power-to weight ratio of 140BHP/tonne.
If however you are interested in making this car even MORE powerful, there are ways in which you can achieve this sensibly (to 200BHP), either with or without getting a chip-tune. It all depends on how much you want to spend. But I think that you will be more than pleased with the performance of this car and leave it the way Lancia intended.
The turbo was only 1000 miles old (Summer 2007)and after a mere 11,000 miles there are no problems to report, the engine sounds beautiful, you would have to hear it to understand what I mean. Every mechanic that has had this car up on ramps has been amazed at the underside of the car, which I am pleased to concur is completely solid, due to a former owner having had the foresight to have the underneath sealed, notoriously the weakest point. However remember that it is a Lancia and like all Lancia’s you have to keep the “Tin Worm” in check, Fortunately for this car the car is very good condition as the pictures indicate, it does however have a small amount of "cosmetic rust”, however small and cosmetic is all it is, there are no points of structural rust. It would be unusual for a Lancia of this age to be rust free. These could be cleaned up easily; I have left them visible so as not to hide it from prospective buyers. The areas that are beginning to show include the front corners of the sunroof, the rear of the roof skin, a patch on the nearside passenger door, the very beginnings of bubbling around the windscreen and rear window and the offside rear wheel arch, but all are at a modest level of progression, Let me stress we are talking very minor here small and not the in your face poke your finger through hole variety in fact the car sailed through its last MOT with only one advisory (a loose suspension mount), which was fixed by a local mechanic (apart from simple jobs, all other work done on the car was carried out by Lancia specialists).
All mechanical parts of the car are working well and drives like a dream and is testament how well this car has been looked after and its low mileage of 77K.The car is MOTD until June 2012 but is currently SORN’d through lack of use.
She starts on the first twist of the key in all weathers.
So, all in all, this car is an excellent example of its breed. I'm sure there can't be many, if any, with lower mileage in the country and in better mechanical condition than this one and although rust is emerging in certain small areas, I think that she probably compares favourably to most other examples.
I have the V5 registration document and a substantial amount of the service history, old bills/receipts and previous MOTs with stamps in the service book, right up to 1999. Unfortunately, between 1999 and 2007, a less conscientious owner failed to keep a service record, but it shouldn't matter in the scheme of things as the car has not wanted for anything and is in excellent shape and pretty much all of the receipts for parts and labour over the last four years has been kept with plenty of documentation to verify that the mileage is genuine.
Whoever drives this car away will be blown away by its looks and performance. It handles excellently (check out the description on: http://www.whalley-integrale.uk.com/hist.htm and Wikipedia), it is fast enough off the mark to give you a fright and it looks nothing less than stunning, it certainly gets a lot of attention.
This car is not a restoration project or any other kind of project requiring work. It is a fully serviceable use “as is” car and looks as good if not better than it does in the pictures. As my listing alludes and mentioned earlier this car is a cut above of your run of the mill Delta Turbo i.e. Don’t under estimate the expense in getting a similar car to this condition.
I have been as honest as I possibly can in my description but people’s perception of condition and value differ greatly so if you are unsure then please enquire further, still unsure then please feel free to source another car elsewhere as I like many other sellers have suffered at the hands of time wasters on previous endeavours.
Payment is to be either cash on collection or cheque or bankers draft to have cleared before the car can be removed.
NB. The aftermarket competition clutch is stiffer than a usual clutch as you would expect.
